| <ajiav> I once ended up at a tattoo parlour in the middle of the night that had people swinging from hooks in the ceiling. I had seen similar things in movies about Native Americans, but there it was made to look like it had some kind of spiritual significance tied into 'becoming a warrior.' I just remember some guy in a Sooners cap yelling, "See! Us Rednecks like to have fun, too!" I try to avoid young people anymore. | ||

And ajiav, you're right, Sitting Bull's people did the whole hooks in the skin thing as part of the Sundance/revitalization of of the native culture thing, and I believe it's still practised in some reservations to this day. Although the Indian Bureau actively discourages it as a major health risk. | ||
