Lil dropped something in my lap. I switched on the bedside lamp before studying the object. It was a very pretty, if somewhat battered blue rose.
"Okay, what does this mean?"

Lil, grinning at me like the Cheshire cat explained.
"I heard it from one of the shelter employees, they've had an influx of unwanted pets, and an odd assortment of primates."
"Did you confirm this report?" I asked, twirling the rose between my fingers thoughtfully.
"No, but the kittens on the inside tell me they haven't smelled any monkies, only humans from the area that supposidly holds the monkies."

"Okay, but what's with the rose?" I queried as I got out of bed and began to dress.
"Oh, yeah, I couldn't read the name of the shelter in my quad dog form, so I stole a rose from the bouquet in the lobby of the shelter." Lil said, as I paused.
"Lil, I heard on the radio that to celebrate adoption month the 'Flower Power' shop donated blue roses to all of the animal shelters in the city."
"D'oh!"
