<mypalmike> Clever theme.
<Mort> I guess no one is doing anything interesting these days.
<David Byrden> When Satan assumes human form, you shall know him by his limp.
<mypalmike> Interesting? Why, I'm living in a crappy extended stay hotel looking for a job, in the bland suburbs of a cultural void, where jobs in my industry don't exist. It's fascinating!
<Mort> Uh why???
<ajiav> what is your industry, if you don't mind my asking?
<guyPaulo> I'm still wondering what kinds of drugs that kid was on to jump on the back of that boar.
<mypalmike> I'm a game programmer. I figured I could afford to buy a house here - there was no way I could afford one in the SF bay area. But you need a job to get a mortgage... So I'm looking for a job. And there's really not much of anything here that relates closely to my skills. Not that I couldn't write EJB, but I haven't in the past...
<mypalmike> I would guess methamphetamine.
<ajiav> I do not know where game programmers are supposed to go, I am sorry.
<David Byrden> Ooooh, game programming! I did that in 1984. And then in 1985 the market collapsed and the company folded.
<mypalmike> Ouch. Bad timing for sure.
<Mort> I worked at 3DO for a couple of years in Redwood City. Not programming games though.
<mypalmike> They closed their doors about a year or so ago...
<mypalmike> I think I want to get into PC/network administration. At least that way, you aren't trapped in a cubicle every day. What did you do at 3DO, by the way?
<Mort> Web stuff, online billing for their online game stuff, getting paid more than game programmers and working less stuff.
<obtuse> You get to be trapped in other people's cubes all day, on page all the time, underappreciated when things work, and the one to blame when they don't.
<obtuse> And if you can program, you're probably both overqualified and undertrained for sysadmin stuff.
<mypalmike> But at least I'd get to strecth my legs...
<mypalmike> (I like that... Overqualified and undertrained...)
<Kumiho> I think I know what guyP's true idenity is.
