<guyPaulo> Dagnabbit! I will be in another meeting today.... |
<Carol> My apologies for not having time to comment until later in the day, due to my inconvenient state of employment. |
<Lauren> Is it just me, or are today's photos anti-inspirational? |
<Mort> I guess I killed the competition with bad images. |
<Lauren> As I said, Mort, maybe it's just me... but let's see you give it a try. |
<H. Monkey> I'm having trouble, too, but I've been feeling very uncreative for the past several days, anyway. And about the RSS feed, Mort: you'd put the history data (or something similar) in a small XML file. There are readers and aggragator software that will sit on your desktop, check the file regularly (usu. every hour) and notify you if there are any changes. It probably will cut down on bandwith, because people will then only go to the site and load the page and images if they get a notification that something's changed. |
<Mort> Yeh I have been looking into it, seems like a very good idea. Might even bring some new people in, if the feed is listed. |
<Lauren> I think maybe those folks who don't vote/comment on at least a specified percentage of others' captions should be excluded from winning on Wednesdays.... What do you all think? |
<H. Monkey> I don't have a problem with it, Lauren. I don't think it's necessary, but I don't have a problem with it. |
<apple juice is a verb> some days i don't have time to comment on everybody's captions...i am at work. On those days I do at least read them all and still vote/comment for those I found funny. I can't help it if a significant percentage of captions don't grab me. |
<David Byrden> I have difficulty in finding time to review all the captions. It is easier to avoid commenting at all. Perhaps you could introduce a new feature whereby reviewers are paid? |
<Lauren> Congrats ajiav, David, H. and asphawk. It was an extreme challange and you all came through relatively unscathed and victorious. |
<Mort> I went through the list of guest day winners and was suprised by my findings. 5 wins - guyPaulo 3 wins - Yoyology, 3Suns 2 wins - Luninaire, ajiav, obtuse, Starbug, David Byrden, DIPLOMATIC SHARK/the bartender, mypalmike, ElvisThePelvis 1 win - carter, Zathras, Buggy, Roger Mexico, JSchmitt, infosponge, Pedro Gonzales, H. Monkey, Carol |
<guyPaulo> Wow. |
<obtuse> re: non-commenting winners I am probably in the category of those who rarely comment. I make no apologies - it's just not my style. I don't really even care about the win; I'm just here to amuse/be amused. |
<David Byrden> It's not winning that matters. It's getting the most votes.
<Lauren> LOL. It was just a suggestion. Sometimes it is the nice thing to do to let others know you appreciate their efforts was what I was thinking. And also Mort could probably use a bit of help in chosing a winner each week. But actually, when all is said and done, I like this site just the way it works now. And David is absolutely right. |
<obtuse> I know my motivation isn't being called into question but I'll still state for the record that I appreciate the efforts of fellow monkies, even if it isn't very evident. For whatever reason, I simply prefer starting a conversation via comments over the voting process. So regarding site design, I think it would be nice if commenting could be decoupled from voting. As an aside, I wonder if Mort's comment/vote code is spam-resistant? |
<Mort> Bah! You assume I think ahead! |
